Plan to go for island hopping or outdoor activities when in Kota Kinabalu, but have to cancel the tour due to bad weather? Why not try some other activities. Other than Eco and Island Tours, there are places waiting for you to explore. Kota Kinabalu is a very small city. You can reach anywhere within the city by foot.

 

Take a visit to Sabah State Museum & Heritage Village

Sabah state museum is located about 4Km away from Kota Kinabalu city center. Take a bus from Wawasan Bus Center or take a taxi to visit the museum and learn about the history of Sabah. The exhibition may be still in the 1960’s but there are lots of information for the first timer st the museum. It is a good place to learn about the culture and history of Sabah.

 

Chill out at Gaya Street and try some local food

If you decide to relax, why not take this opportunity to try some local food at Gaya Street. Try the local’s favourite beverage: Teh Tarik at Fook Yuen. You may want to check out tourists’ favourite Yee Fung Coffee Shop as well for their Laksa and Beef Noodle. If you like cozy food, lookout for the Bak Kut Teh shops which open in the evening.

Watch a movie at Suria Sabah Mall

Since it’s windy and rainy, why not take this chance to watch a movie at Golden Screen Cinema at 8th floor of Suria Sabah shopping mall. Movie ticket price in Sabah is affordable. Screening halls are all equipped with up-to-date sound system and they have 3-D screening  hall too.

Shopping Adventure

There are few malls in Kota Kinabalu which are within walking distance. From Centre Point to Merdeka Shopping Centre and Suria Sabah Shopping Mall, there must be something wonderful awaiting for you somewhere.

 

Visit to Central Market and Filipino Market

If “experiencing what the locals do” is your kind of activity, take a visit to Central Market where locals buy their fresh vegetables and meats. See what the locals buy for their daily grocery. After you have smell enough “market”, walk towards Filipino Market where you can find tourist souvenirs, key chains, pearls of various qualities, trinkets, dried seafood and local cakes. Remember to bargain and take care of your belongings when you explore through the market.
