I am always amazed on how many great tasting food I’ve found accidentally while completing this food guide. This is one of it.
I was supposed to recommend Carbonara pasta at Up2u cafe.
Instead, I asked for the owner’s favourite and recommendation.
“Many didn’t know but our burgers are actually good. You can have a try”
After first bite – HEY THIS IS REALLY GOOD WOH!
The fries are hot and crunchy, burger patty is juice and it goes really well with the entire burger . I like to hold on a burger while consuming one. Unfortunately this burger is too huge – luckily fork and knife is provided.
You can try Shisha here too. I prefer cold Budweiser 😉

Aubergine literally means dark purple you find in eggplants.
This newly opened restaurant/cafe has gotten great feedback from customers. Kota Kinabalu is a small place – and with a good review like this, it’s not long until I show up at door step.
“What’s your crowd’s favourite?” is my first question to the waiter.
“The juggernaut burger , is the crowds’ favourite.” he says.
15 minutes later. I see a huge, juicy beef patty, burger in front of me. Along with honey mustard, hot and crispy wedges with seasoning.
Everything is hot and fresh when served. Presentation is good too.
Live bands, friendly staff, good service, comfortable environment.. all are good reasons for me to return. I hope that future expansions won’t deter their quality like many other restaurants.
Available daily from 4pm til late.

I have always been a huge kid since young age. My dad always says I am Caucasian-sized due to my meal preference… milk, egg, cheese, bread, pizza, burgers and sandwiches are my staple food.
Rice? meh.. skip.
So naturally I’m attracted to burgers, pizza-alike. Bombers Burger serves American Burger, I was excited when it launch but I didn’t go until everything is “stable”.
The waitress recommended “Route 66″ burger, which is the crowd’s favourite. You can choose chicken or beef. I like the fact that the burger patty is an entire piece of chicken breast instead of mince chicken . Yummy.
Available for breakfast: 7am-11am. Evening 6pm to midnight?
Lot 111, Jalan Gaya, 88000 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Malaysia.
I heard about Big Bad Wolf Pork burger stall in Facebook status. It was a stall by a friend’s friend’s friend. (Wayyy too social).
I heard plenty of good feedback from them. Like any typical KK people, we are hesitant to try new food.. So I have to apply the “let me waste money on the food first so I’ll tell you if it’s good” mentality.
The burger is actually pretty simple… Bun + Pork Patty + Cheese + Sauce. Only the key ingredients. Less is more, bebeh!
You can enjoy the juiciness and sweetness of pork throughly with such minimal ingredients. It’s enjoyable.
Who needs vegetables in their burger anyway?
Update: Changed owner. Pricing changed. Taste changed.
Update #2: Double Patty is now RM9.50. Damn pork price.
RM5 for one patty; RM9 for two patties.
12noon to 11pm daily.
Burger Bakar at Tanjung Aru Plaza is one of the most-discussed burger in Kota Kinabalu. Their social media online presence played a huge part in theirburger branding, sending them many repeat customers.
I am glad they’ve added chicken to their menu because it was only beef patties when they started. And I do not have many choices.
I wouldn’t rate them the best tasting burger in town, but it’s a great experience having something different other than KFC and McD’s burger. Nope – we don’t have Ramly burger here, so sad!

Cristao recently opened in centre of Gaya Street , next to Sugarbuns and BBcafe. This spot is usually catered to backpackers and tourist alike.
We ordered the crowds favourite, Pulled Pork Burger . Taste wise is ok and there are rooms for improvement. We were told that they will come up with new and exciting menu when their grill pit arrived.
We also tried Grandma’s Spicy Balls (we asked them why not use Grandpa instead of Grandma – and we both #grin). The spiciness is a bit tad overwhelming.
