This year, mountain runners from around the world convene at the 28th Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon – Adventure Series to take on the majestic Mount Kinabalu. Catch the excitement as runners from around the world gather at Malaysia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site on the 18th and 19th October, Kundasang Town, Sabah.
The Summit Race for elite runners will be held on Saturday, the 18th of October. This particular race course is applicable only for the qualified participants recommended by their national federation or have finished the race within the time limit in the previous year’s Climbathon. The race will start from Kinabalu Park to the summit of Mt. Kinabalu (4,095.2 m) and it will pass through Mesilau and finishing at Kundasang town. This race course is 33 km long.
The Adventure Race will be held on Sunday, the 19th of October and is open to all participants. The race starts from Kinabalu Park to the summit trail of Layang-Layang, which is the half-way point of the summit trail (2760.3 m).The participants will then continue their race to Mesilau and cross the finish line at Kundasang town. This race course is 23 km long.
The 28th Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon – Adventure Series is also one of the venues in Asian Mountain Race Circuit for runners’ to gather points. International top runners from Malaysia, Japan and Philippines race in the series’ venues to gather points to become the series world champion. As of the closing date, the Climbathon managed to attract 741 participants from 32 countries. 81 elite participants for the 1st day and 660 participants on the 2nd day. In conjunction with the Climbathon, the Pesta Kubis or Cabbage Festival will be held in Kundasang town. Visitors are invited to be a part of this unique event and to explore the many places of interest found in Kundasang and Ranau.
There will be a free public shuttle bus service from Ranau to Kundasang town on the 18th to 19th October 2014 (Saturday and Sunday) at 8:00am, 9:00am, 10:00am and returning from 11:00am, 12:00pm and 1:00pm. Pick-up point will be at the Ranau District office and the drop off point is the Kundasang Town.
